Imphal, July 01 2021:
Federation of Government College Teachers' Association (FEGOCTA) Manipur has reiterated its appeal to the government to issue relevant orders for implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 to the government college teachers of the state.
In a release, FEGOCTA said that they are compelled to boycott conduct of online classes and examinations in government colleges including Dhanamanjuri University as the date government has been undermining their genuine demand for a long time.
Expressing strong resentment that there has been no positive response till date even after setting June 30 as the deadline, it asserted that the agitation will continue until the orders effecting actual implementation of the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 as per the MoU signed on March 6 are issued.
"Adhoc Committee of the Constituent Colleges of Dhanamanjuri University have extended support to the decision of FEGOCTA to boycott online classes and examinations," said the release and added that the decision was taken in a meeting held Thursday at DM College of Arts.
The release recounted that on June 20, FEGOCTA submitted a letter requesting the education minister and the chief secretary to issue the pending order by June 30 and honour MOU of March 6, 2021 .
"The painful decision is against discrimination, repeated betrayals and delaying tactics to the government College teachers since 2017," added the release.
As a national policy of November 2, 2017, 7th UGC Pay was adopted for the college teachers in India.
UGC adopted UGC Regulations, 2018 on July 18, 2018 for the colleges and universities in India.
After the 5th FEGOCTA agitation, the first Cabinet meeting on the issue gave its approval on November 29, 2019 followed by a similar decision of the Cabinet on March 27, 2021, it added.
The release opined that inordinate delay and undermining of the MoU validate the suspicion that the government as well as the society, political parties and stakeholders concerned are not according priority to education or respecting teachers of Manipur.
