Imphal, October 19 2021:
Demanding that the public ground in the area be kept as it is, denizens of Langol Game Village Zone-3 staged a protest on Tuesday against the proposed construction of a housing complex on a local public ground by PDA.
The protest, which was carried out in front of the ground, was prevented from going out of control due to the timely arrival of the police.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, United Club of Langol convenor Samom Dhruva declared that the PDA plan to construct a housing complex at the public ground of Game Village Zone-3 is unacceptable.
He urged for keeping the ground as it is while denouncing the PDA's plan.
"It is contradictory to have the playground destroyed while the state is holding the title of a power house of sports in India.
The government should take up steps to save the playground," he said, adding that the PDA should carry out its activities while keeping in line with the sentiments of the people.
Stating that the people initially assumed that ongoing work was part of developing the ground, Dhruva said that the people objected after realising the work was for constructing a housing complex.
The locals had previously staged a sit-in protest against the work.
However, due to lack of any action on the matter, another protest was carried out on Tuesday, he conveyed, while cautioning that all works must be halted until an amicable solution is reached.
