Swarnim Vijay Mashaal reaches Churachandpur

The Swarnim Vijay Mashaal or the Victory Flame that symbolises India's victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war reached Churachandpur town on Tuesday and it was handed over to 46 Assam Rifles commandant Col Viplav Tripathi by the Officiating Commandant of 5 Maratha Light Infantry of Bishnupur.
The victory flame was proudly ushered in to the district by members of Churachandpur Royal Bikers Club.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lit the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal from the eternal flame of the National War Memorial, New Delhi to mark the beginning of the 50th anniversary celebration of India's victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war and flagged it off on December 16, 2020.Four victory Mashaals (flaming torches) are being carried to various parts of India including the villages of Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra awardees of the 1971 war.
According to a release, 46 AR under the aegis of 27 Sector Inspector General AR (South) started the national celebration of Victory Flame by paying homage to the martyrs at the war memorial of 27 Sector, Churachandpur.
The event was attended by troops of Assam Rifles including DIG 27 Sector, war veterans, gallantry award winners, civildignitaries and CSOs of Churachandpur district.
The dignitaries paid homage to the brave soldiers of the motherland by laying wreath and floral tribute to the war memorial followed by a rally of all ex-servicemen of Churachandpur district and felicitation.
The three phases of celebration will also include welcoming of the victory flames at Khuga Dam, conduct of Run For Fit India, friendly football and volleyball matches at Mata village on October 20 as part of the second phase and conduct of a road show with Churachandpur Royal Bikers and a cultural programme on October 21, added the release.
