AIMTWF leader airs transporters' woes to minister Khasim

All India Motor Transport Workers' Federation (AIMTWF) deputy general secretary Lakshmaiah met transport minister Khashim Vashum on Tuesday and highlighted various issues of transport workers and employees of transport department.
During the meeting, Lakshmaiah reportedly apprised the minister that ISBT at Khuman Lampak was constructed with huge money for convenience of transport workers and people but it has been left in a very bad and unworkable condition.
He then urged the minister to repair the ISBT immediately to make it workable.
CITU Manipur general secretary Ksh Shanta, Manipur Government Services Federation general secretary L Purijit and Manipur Secretariat Services Association general secretary Sougrakpam Rabi also accompanied Lakshmaiah during the meeting with Khashim Vashum and handed over a memorandum to the state transport minister.
Lakshmaiah also visited different places of the state and interacted with inter-state bus workers, leaders of petroleum and tankers associations, drivers of mini goods vehicles, truck drivers and employees of state government departments.
According to Lakshmaiah, ISBT at Khuman Lampak having many facilities was constructed with huge money for convenience of transport workers and people but present condition of the ISBT is awfully bad.
Roads both at the entry and exit gates of ISBT are not workable and driving on these roads is dangerous now, he said and urged the minister to repair the ISBT at the earliest.
He also drew attention of the minister for increasing wages of private workers who are getting no benefit and living at the mercy of bus owners.
Regarding oil tankers carrying petroleum products of IOCL, Lakshmaiah said that it takes huge amount of money and exhaustive process for oil tankers to get the inter-state permit.
He also said that tanker drivers face harassment from police and burden of illegal tax and hence government must look into the matter seriously.
He also appealed to the minister to chalk out special plan for providing social security to drivers who are rendering service day and night for the people.
He maintained that transport plays key role in enhancing economy of the nation as also in increasing GDP of a nation or state.
While informing that employees of state transport department are facing inconvenience in performing their duties due to lack of office infrastructures both at the head office and district offices, Lakshmaiah said that engagement of employees on contract basis is also one factor for this sorry state and urged the minister to fill vacant posts on regular basis.
At the end of the meeting, minister Khashim Vashum assured of look into the points raised by the federation.
