ZNC president advises responsible party to take accountability for firing incident

Zeme Naga Council held a press conference on Monday at Manipur Press Club in connection with the firing incident which occurred on the intervening night of May 31 at Bendramai, Senapati in which unknown miscreants fired roughly 17 rounds of shots at two JCBs.
Speaking to media persons, secretary of Zeme Naga Council, L Etalakpe strongly condemned the incident and said that the JCBs had been used in the expansion work of Maram-Peren road as well as construction of a church and had subsequently been kept Bendramai Local Ground.
At this point, some unknown perpetrators fuelled by anti-social agenda fired at the two JCBs and caused a significant damage, he stated.
He cautioned that if the responsible party does not come forward then they will resort to legal recourse.
He also made an appeal to all to refrain from causing any disturbance in the expansion work of Maram-Peren road.
Further, he urged the Chief Minister to fulfil their earlier demand of establishing a police station at the border town of Bendramai.
The Council president touched upon the subject of the poor state of transport and communication in remote Zeme inhabited areas.
He shared that in many cases poor road conditions had led to the deaths of ailing patients.
Mention was made of a particular incident in which an ailing child breathed her last at Tousem Primary Health Centre.
Haizerangbe Paul, Zeme Students' Organisation, Manipur also spoke to media persons and informed that Zeme Naga Council and Zeme Students' Organisation, Manipur have resolved to come together in the face of this act of violence.
Haizerangbe Paul also raised concerns about the oxygen cylinders which had been brought to Tousem Primary Health Centre and questioned their whereabouts.
He alleged that the aforementioned child might have survived if an oxygen cylinder had been available.
