State second in SFSI-2O21-22: Dr K Rajo

Manipur bagged the second rank among the small states of India in the 4th State Food Safety Index (SFSI) 2021-22 released by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) based on different parameters, Health director Dr K Rajo has informed.
Food Safety Administration, Health Department observed World Food Safety Day on the theme of 'Safer Food, Better Health' at Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat on Tuesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Dr K Rajo informed that FSSAI releases the SFSI every financial year with the objective of ensuring a proper food safety ecosystem in all states and union territories of the country.
The index serves as a benchmark model for food safety evaluation in India and is calculated based on different parameters, which include 5 factors, namely human resource and institutional data, compliance, food testing- infrastructure and surveillance, training and capacity building and consumer empowerment.
He continued that the evaluation and assessment of SFSI is categorised for large and small states, and union territories, in addition to assessment by experts of food testing and food & nutrition.
For this year, Tamil Nadu ranked first, Gujarat second and Maharashtra third among the large states.
Goa secured the first, Manipur second and Sikkim the third rank in the small states category; while for the UTs, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi and Chandigarh won first and second place respectively.
The observance was also attended by Health joint director N Rajen and Food Safety officials.
As per the release by FSSAI for this year, Tamil Nadu scored 82 points, while Gujarat scored 77.5 points and Maharashtra 70 points in the large states category.
For the small states category, Goa secured the first rank with 56 points, Manipur second with 44 points, Sikkim third with 40 points, Tripura fourth with 38.5 points, Meghalaya fifth with 38 points, Nagaland sixth with 36 points, Mizoram seventh with 22.5 points and Arunachal Pradesh eight with 21 points.
In the UTs category, Jammu & Kashmir topped with 68.5 points, NCT of Delhi second with 66 points and Chandigarh third with 58 points.
