Truck plunges off Chakumai Bridge on Imp-Dpr highway
3rd mishap in less than 30 days

Imphal, June 07 2022:
A cement laden truck fell of the dilapidated Chakumai Bridge into Likhru River.
Both the driver and the handyman sustained critical injuries.
From May 12 till today, three loaded trucks have fallen into Likhru River off the same dilapidated bridge, and many people, particularly transporters have been blaming the dilapidated condition of the bridge for the accidents.
Chakumai Bridge is a key bridge of Imphal-Dimapur Highway whose construction and maintenance are handled by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) .
Both the driver and the handyman of the truck which was transporting wheat from Dimapur to Imphal were killed on May 12 when their truck skidded off Chakumai Bridge and fell into the river.

Again, a cement laden truck fell into Likhru River off the same bridge on May 15 killing both the driver and his assistant.
For the third time, another cement laden truck lost control over Chakumai Bridge and fell into the river at around 7 am today.
Driver Nashir Khan alias Naresh and his assistant Mush Khan sustained critical injuries.
They were evacuated to RIMS Hospital and after they were given first aid at the Maram camp of 44 AR.
Mao police have registered a suo moto case regarding the incident.
