Imphal, June 07 2022:
One more truck fell from the accident prone Likhru Korii bridge located between Chakhumai and Makhan village under Mao police station along the Imphal Dimapur road.
The incident happened around 8am Tuesday.
Both the driver and helper of the truck loaded with cement coming from Dimapur side were injured in the accident and the injured driver is said to be in a critical condition and undergoing treatment at an army unit hospital at Maram.
According to a report, both the driver and the handyman were rushed to the nearby district hospital for treatment.
This is the third accident that occurred in the same area in the last two months.
Meanwhile, Mao Truck Drivers' Union and Mao Youth Organisation has withdrawn its proposed indefinite along NH-0A after the state government assured of repairing the bridge at the earliest.
Saddened by the third truck falling from the bridge within a month, Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) general secretary Ksh Sanjay said that four drivers and helpers have lost their lives at the bridge when two trucks fell from the bridge.
The association had repeatedly urged the government to look into present condition of the road and the bridge but remains unheeded till date and hence the accident was an artificial one, he said and strongly condemned silence of the government.
A team of MDA along with representatives of Senapati Drivers' Union visited the site and found repairing of bars of the bridge without quality control and hence stopped the work, Ksh Sanjay informed, while adding that legal action may be initiated as government remains mute to the demand for proper repairing the bridge and the road at the accident prone site.
