Ex-MLA challenges election of Noorul Hassan

Imphal, April 27 2022:
In yet another case of alleged discrepancies in the nomination papers submitted to returning officers in connection with the recently held state assembly election, BJP candidate and ex-MLA Nahakpam Indrajit, who lost the election, has hied a petition against incumbent MLA of Kshetrigao A/C Sheikh Noorul Hassan at High Court of Manipur.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle, Nahakpam Indrajit informed that the election petition hied at the court is number 6/2022 .
The motion hearing of the petition will be held at Justice MV Muralidaran's court number 3 on April 28 .
The petitioner's counsels are L Rojeshon, Th Loyangamba and Ajoy Pebam.
He further informed that the election petition has been filed under the relevant provisions of Representation of The People's Act, 1951 which MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan violated.
The petitioner prayed for declaring the election of Noorul Hassan as null and void and declaring the petitioner as the winner of the 12th Manipur assembly election.
It may be mentioned here that Supreme Court of India already issued a judgment for disposing election petition cases within six months.
