Imphal, April 27 2022:
Condemning the remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about making Hindi a compulsory subject till Class X in the North Eastern states, All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) denounced that it is a move to wipe out the indigenes.
In a release, AMESCO publicity secretary W Deepu pointed out that language is one of the most important elements of a community as people could not save their community without language and script.
The imposition is like those times when colonisers spread repressive regimes across the world where major community forcefully imposed their language and script by destroying the language, script and culture of the smaller ones.
He further said that making Hindi a compulsory subject has made the idea of 'one nation one language' clearer.
It demeaned the meaning of secularism in democracy.
While enquiring why Hindi is to be made a compulsory subject in the eight North East states, Deepu further questioned the reason for not trying to make a curriculum and include the history of the land clearly till now.
The state government should make it stand clearly on the issue to the public, he demanded, while reiterating that AMESCO will never accept the move of making Hindi a compulsory subject.
