Eye kits donated by Japan Embassy to Shija inaugurated

Eye medical equipment donated to Shija Foundation by the Embassy of Japan in India were inaugurated at the hospital on Wednesday.
The equipment were donated by the embassy under Government of Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme, which aims at strengthening the friendly relationship between India and Japan.
Miyamato Shingo, who is the Economic and Development minister in the Embassy of Japan in India, inaugurated the equipment at the hospital's Langol premises.
GGP project coordinator Babyta, Shija Foundation president RK Nimai and Shija Foundation chairman Dr Kh Palin also attended the function.
Speaking at the event, minister Miyamoto Shingo informed that the Government of Japan is taking up various development schemes and initiatives in different parts of the country since the last four years.
While expressing belief that the relationship between the two countries will improve further through such cooperation, he also assured of providing further assistance to Shija Foundation.
In his address, Dr Palin, who is also the Shija Hospitals & Research Institute managing director cum chairman, said that the eye medical equipment donated by the Government of Japan are state of the art equipment.
Early detection of eye health problem could prevent blindness and the new equipment will help the hospital in providing better eye treatment facilities.
It will help in reducing the chances of blindness due to eye diseases like glaucoma, diabetes, retinopathy, diabetic retinopathy and other Vitreoretinal Disease.
People of the state will no longer require going to other states to get eye treatment, he said.
He also spoke about various outreach health camps that are being organised by Shija Foundation in the state as well as Myanmar.
The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Project scheme was established in 1989 to meet the diverse basic human needs in developing countries.
The Government of Japan has supported India in diverse fields of grassroots projects such as construction of school buildings, vocational centres, and check dams, as well as provision of medical equipment and many more.
