CADA conducts awareness programme

As part of their ongoing effort to curb the abuse of drugs and alcohol, an awareness programme was jointly organised today by Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) Imphal West District Committee and Meitram Awang Leikai Chaokhat Khongthang Nupi Lup at Meitram Awang Leikai, Imphal West.
The awareness programme was held on the topic of the ill-effects of illicit substances and people's responsibility in curbing their abuse.
The awareness programme was attended by Kongbrailatpam Bina, secretary general, CADA Imphal West District Committee; Sagolsem Maipakpi, president, Chaokhat Khongthang Nupi Lup and Ningthoujam Doren, vice-president CADA.
Meanwhile Dipanjit Ningthoujam, vice-president, CADA and Geetchandra Mangang secretary general, CADA attended the event as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Geetchandra Mangang stated that widespread abuse of alcohol and pharmaceutical drugs has greatly impacted the youth.
However, merely seizing these illicit items and destroying them will not solve the problem.
He stressed on three steps which are accepted worldwide to curb drug use - supply reduction, demand reduction and harm reduction.
Dipanjit Ningthoujam commended the State Government's 'War On Drugs' initiative and added that the public needs to actively participate and cooperate with the Govt in order to create a drug-free Manipur.
