Stage set for 'North East Festival' from Apr 28-May 4

Union Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) would be organising North East Festival as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) commemorating 75 years of independence across the North Eastern states from April 28 to May 4 .
Addressing the media about the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav - North East Festival on Wednesday, Union minister of DoNER, tourism and culture G Kishan Reddy said that inauguration of the week-long celebrations would be held across the eight states in their own special and significant manner.
He further said that the culmination of the week-long celebrations will be held at Guwahati on May 4 which will be attended by President Ram Nath Kovind, along with governors and chief ministers of all the states.
According to PIB (Imphal), Kishan Reddy impressed upon the fact that the AKAM week for North East will be leveraged to discuss and deliberate about various aspects fundamental to the development of the NE region.
It will be a celebration of hope, aspiration and vision for a developed and prosperous NE region, he maintained.
The Union minister also mentioned that the unsung heroes of North East would also be honoured during the week-long celebrations through different programmes and events.
He also spoke on a range of subjects concerning development of the NE region and informed the press that a special Agriculture Task Force has been formed to ensure mission mode work on harnessing the agriculture and horticulture potential of the region.
Under the spirit of 'Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahi', various programmes have been slotted across all the eight states.
These programmes will address all aspects of the North East's development, including infrastructure, investment opportunities, energy needs, eco-tourism, Agri-Horti and organic products potential and the role of women in the region's development.
Meanwhile, the festival will also celebrate sportspersons of the region through a one-week sports event which will culminate on May 3 in Imphal.
