Imphal, April 27 2022:
The JAC formed in connection with the death of Shamom ningol Ningthoujam ongbi Chengkheinganbi Devi has refused to claim her body, which is currently lying at RIMS Morgue, owing to the failure of the authority concerned to fulfil its demands.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, JAC convenor L Amar said that the JAC had demanded the post mortem report of Chingkheinganbi to be made public by April 27 whereas the police assured of providing the post mortem report within 7 days, following which the JAC agreed to the conduct of post mortem examination.
However, as the assurances have not been fulfilled, the body will not be claimed until the post mortem report is produced.
He then added that the JAC will continue to agitate with other CSOs until truth is revealed.
Chingkheinganbi's father Shamom Shanjit, who also attended the press meet, informed that his daughter had returned to her maternal home after separating from her husband Ningthoujam Bijando due to domestic violence.
After three years of separation, Bijando managed to coax his daughter and took her back to his home.
He then made Chingkheinganbi cut off all contacts with her maternal family.
On April 21, a neighbour of Bijando called and informed that Chingkheinganbi had been taken to hospital due to ill health.
Later, it was found that Bijando's family had taken his (Shanjit) daughter to Raj Medicity.
The attending doctor, however, stated that Chingkheinganbi was brought dead to the hospital.
Shanjit continued that when Bijando's family was asked about the circumstances regarding the hospitalisation, all of them gave different accounts.
One said that Chingkheinganbi choked on her food, while another conveyed they found her foaming from her mouth.
As there have been incidents of domestic violence in the past, Shanjit raised suspicions of foul play in his daughter's death.
Although Mayang Imphal Police has registered a case in connection with his daughter's death, the follow-up action of summoning both families to the police station and trying to resolve the matter one-sidedly cannot be accepted, Shanjit said.
Taking serious of this, he also appealed to the authority concerned to replace the IO of the case with a senior police officer.
