Imphal, April 16 2022:
As the Solid Waste Management Plant at Lamdeng is running out of space, discussions are on to set up a dumpsite in Imphal East district, said MAHUD minister Y Khemchand.
Speaking on the sidelines of a joint cleanliness drive undertaken with Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) staff along the banks of Nambul river in connection with the 42nd foundation day of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised by BJP Imphal West district on Saturday, Khemchand explained that the drive was taken up with the objective of keeping Imphal City neat and clean under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
He also called upon the citizens not to dump garbage into the river in areas adjacent to the city as the filth would only flow into the Loktak Lake during the monsoon season.
As such, he urged all concerned to help prevent such possible scenario, while further urging local Meira Paibi bodies and clubs to take the responsibility in the matter once an effective system is put in place.
He then assured of extending all possible help in this regard.
The residents nearby informed the minister about the irregular collection of garbage despite repeated complaints, which in turn has led to dumping of the garbage along the river banks.
In response, Khemchand revealed that discussions are being held to set up a dumping site in Imphal East, while assuring of holding talk with the officials concerned in the matter as well.
The drive was also participated by IMC caretaker chairman L Lokeshwor.
