Centre approves PMGSY road projects: Khemchand

While disclosing that the Centre has approved construction of roads covering a total distance of 814km under PMGSY-Phase III in the state, RD & PR minister Y Khemchand has said that soil stabilisation technology will be used in construction of the approved roads so that the roads have life-span of no less than 25 years.
Disclosing this to media persons at his secretariat office chamber, here, on Monday, Y Khemchand said that roads to be constructed under PMGSY - Phase III have been finalised and proposal for the same will be forwarded to the ministry very soon.
He said that soil stabilisation technology used on trial basis in the construction of a 47 km long road in Churachandpur district has been successful and life span of PMGSY roads in the state will be lengthened if this technology is applied.
He said that damage of newly constructed roads in rainy season could be prevented if soil stabilisation technology is adopted.
While claiming that altogether 39 projects (17 bridges, 22 roads) under PMGSY have been completed since he assumed charge of the department, Y Khemchand said that routine maintenance works are undergoing at 35 different sites.
He further said that PMGSY is taking huge responsibility in developing roads and bridges in rural areas, both in the hills and valley of the state.
He also said that road development up to Dzuko valley in Senapati district under PMGSY remains halted after villagers of Nagaland state opened fired towards the labourers.
Regarding reports appeared in local dailies about withdrawal of Rs 5 crore by different firms and individuals from Manipur State Rural Roads Development Agency (MSRRDA) despite the existing ban on such withdrawal, Y Khemchand informed that a show cause notice has been served to the chief engineer concerned returnable by 5pm of September 6 and necessary legal action will be initiated if the officer concerned fails to do so .
