National Nutrition launched in Tamenglong

National Nutrition month also known as Rashtriya Poshan Maah has been launched in Tamenglong district along with rest of the country.
The launch event was organised by ICDS Cell Tamenglong District Programme Officer under the department of Social Welfare on Monday at Zeliangrong Evangelical Fellowship conference hall.
Tamenglong deputy commissioner Pawan Ya-dav, district immunisation officer Dr Sunil Kamei and ICDS Cell Tamenglong programme officer M Sobha Devi attended the event as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
As a part of the programme, DC Pawan Yadav flagged off and also joined a Poshan Maah rally till Jadonang Park area and ended at the started point.
The rally participated by Anganwadi workers, helpers and ASHAs awareness slogans were raised to remind the public on the importance of consuming iodine salt and nutritious food for health.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Pawan explained that Poshan Maah was launched in 2018 to create awareness about nutrition at the grass roots level with the convergent of three/ four departments including Education, Medical and PHED.
The nutrition campaign programme also aims to increase awareness among young mothers, adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women, family members, he said.
Earlier Poshan Maah used to focused only on children but now the emphasis has been broadened to achieve specific targets for reduction of birth of low-weight babies, stunted growth, under-nutrition and prevalence of anaemia within the next three years.
