5-day Thang-Ta festival concludes

The valedictory function of five-day Thang-Ta festival organised by Mangan Thang-Ta Lup was held today at the training hall of the Lup today.
The valedictory function was attended by Ksh Bhaktakumar Meetei, general secretary, Chief Minister's Indigenous Martial Arts Akademi Manipur; Sapam Inaobi Singh, assistant secretary; Laishram Lashamon Singh, secretary, Huyen Lanjang Thang-Ta Association, Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak; Thiyam Kora Singh, president, Thang-Ta and Cultural Association, Thiyam Leishangkhong; Nameirakpam Jibal Singh, secretary, Eastern Thang-Ta Organisation, Tangkham, Imphal East; Moirangthem Binoy Meitei, secretary, Epudhou Pureiromba Angoupanba Thang-Ta, Lilong Chajing and Moirangthem Dilip Singh, State In-charge, Department of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan BJP Manipur Pradesh as the presidium members, said a press release by Mangan Thang-Ta Lup.
Speaking at the occasion Sapam Inaobi Singh lauded the Chief Minister for taking up the initiative to promote and safeguard the unique and indigenous martial art form of Thang-Ta by setting up Chief Minister's Indigenous Martial Arts Akademi Manipur.
Stating that Thang-Ta plays a vital role in inculcating discipline apart from imparting martial art tactics, he commended Mangan Thang-Ta Lup for conducting the Thang-Ta festival with an objective to revive the importance of this art form in today's society.
Organising such festivals will also help the youths of today to stay healthy and inculcate good lifestyle habits and to stay away from drugs and intoxicants, he added.
While speaking at the occasion, the dignitaries also emphasized on the importance of learning the age-old Thang-Ta art form from grass root level to popularise it and to ensure that it is practised in every household.
They also stressed on the need of developing Thang-Ta training sites in every locality thereby providing a platform for the young children and youths to learn this art-form, added the release.
