Imphal, September 05 2022:
In connection with the recent rape case surrounding Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Porompat; the JAC against Rape and Sexual Harassment convened a public meeting with different civil societies of the state, Chin-gamakha Apunba Lup, Women Action for Development, Kangleipak Kanba Lup, Federal Students' Organisation Kangleipak, Apunba Huidrom Leikai Meira Paibi, Ibudhou Thonglen Lakpa VLA and people from different parts of the state at Kakwa Lamdaibung community hall on Monday.
According to a release issued by the JAC, various resolutions were adopted during the meeting.
The resolutions include demand for strict punishment of the person(s) involved in the incident; staging of democratic protests along with state CSOs, student bodies and the people; urging for the culprits to be put into police custody and conduct of detailed investigation, followed by filing of chargesheet; and SIMS must produce white paper publicly if it continues to deny any connection with the incident.
The release then stated that SIMS must stop trying to derail the case by sending out its people and trying to portray the protests in bad light.
The victim is a second semester student of the Institute and was abducted and raped by the Institute's founder and managing director after conspiring with three other teachers.
Apprehending that the Institute would suffer at the hands of the people, he directed the remaining teachers of SIMS who are on his payroll to act out a play such as suspending him and declaring that the accused people were not related with the Institute.
The chaos which occurred on Saturday was not caused by the JAC but by SIMS.
It is questionable why SIMS is yet to visit the victim, who also happens to be one of its students, till date, and also, why the Institute is barring the classmates of the victim from visiting her residence, the release conveyed.
