Training on food processing begins

A five-day residential skill development training programme on 'Food processing and value addition', which is being organised by Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS) began from Monday at its Mantripukhri training hall.
The training programme which is being conducted under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD-NER) with the sponsorship of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) of horticulture and soil conservation department was inaugurated by Meira Foods proprietor Shubhra Devi Hanjabam and DSSS director Rev Father Bij Lacoz.
In his speech, Rev Father Bij Lacoz said that DSSS is part of MOVCDNER and altogether 11 Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) have been set up under DSSS in different districts of the state and two more FPCs will be opened soon.
He further said that DSSS is working in collaboration with around 5000 farmers and the training programme is being organised to enhance skill and technological knowledge on food processing apart from sharing the traditional knowledge to farmers associated with DSCC.

Shubhra Devi encouraged farmers by recounting how Meira Foods progressed after it was established around 18 years back.
Around 80 farmers of 11 FPCs under DSSS are taking part in the training programme.
