Imphal, June 26 2022:
Asserting that mass movement with a united effort could help in rooting out the issue of drug abuse from the state, All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) president Thokchom Ramani has called for unity.
She was speaking at the 46th foundation day celebration of Nupi Samaj held at Singjamei Wangma Bheigyabati Leikai community hall on Sunday.
Floral tributes were paid to deceased members of the organisation, who led and took part in various public movements on different social issues like AFSPA and drugs, on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Ramani recalled how the Meira Paibi activists took the fight against drugs and alcohol for decades and turned it into a mass movement.
Unfortunately, the issue of drug abuse is gradually engulfing the society and it needs a mass movement with sincere efforts and unity to root out the menace, she stressed and also extended wishes for the success of the War against Drugs campaign of the state government.
In his address, AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai hailed the role played by various women organisations including Nupi Samaj in the fight against drugs, AFSPA and other social issues.
Though their fight against drugs and alcohol succeeded in saving the society from the impact of substance abuse to a great extent, the same issue has resurfaced again with a stronger force and it is time for the public to take a united stand for fighting the menace so as to save the society and its youth, he said.
AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi, All Manipur Tammee Chingmee Apunba Nupi Lup president Y Momon, and Singjamei Thong Wangma Apunba Meira Paibi president L Memcha also attended the function as the presidium members.
