Use of 'endangered' old words in films needed for preservation: Joykisan

The prize distribution ceremony of the 9th SUK state level spelling competition, 2022 and 5 th 'Manipuri Ariba Lon (Kanglei Lon) gi Wahanthok Changdamnaba', 2022 was held at Meipa Banquet Hall, Palace Compound here on Sunday.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykisan noted that though Manipuri language is rich replacing of indigenous words with other languages in daily usage is endangering of Manipuri language.
Further stating that contemporary generation does not know many old Manipuri words, he stressed that the need to use endangered old words through the medium of films for preservation.
Lauding the students' body for organising such competitions, Joykisan expressed confidence that it will definitely help a lot in protection and preservation of Manipuri language.
He assured of extending all possible help in preservation and promotion of the language.
In his address, CCSK president Jitendra Ningomba appreciated the initiative of the students' organisation in conducting such competition to preserve and protect Manipuri language.
This will not only make students learn about the old words but also give a feeling of loving their mother language, he stated, while adding that participation of more than 5,000 students in the competition signified that the initiative has been successful.
CCSK will also provide all possible help and co-operation, he assured.
For the 9th state level spelling competition, 2022 (category A) class VII student of Tiny Tots' Unique School Thiyam Dayananda Singh won first prize, Fiorentina Mutum (class VI) of Nirmalabas High School bagged second prize and Tiny Tots' Unique School's Tamngariba Okram (Cl VII) won third prize.
In category B, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Langjing class IX student Sylvan Kangjam, Little Flower School class X student Thoudam Thasana and Catholic School Canchipur class X student Tennyson Arambam won first, second and third position respectively.
Manipur University MA 4th semester student Haorongbam Ranjan Meitei bagged the first position and MA 2nd semester student Thangjam Komolata secured the second position while Class X student of Manipur Stars Institute Mungyamba Chungkham won the third position in the 5th 'Manipuri Ariba Lon (Kanglei Lon) Gi Wahanthok Changdamnaba'.
The prize distribution ceremony presided over by SUK president Dhanakumar Ningthouja was also attended by CSSEIP Manipur University reader Dr Th Bharat Singh as guest of honour.
