Imphal, June 26 2022:
While welcoming MP Leishamba Sanajaoba's efforts to inscribe Manipuri (Meetei Mayek) script in the currency notes of India, Kanglei Eepee Eeyek Kanba Lup, Kangleipak (KEEKL) has appealed the MP and the state government to delay the process for inclusion of Meetei Mayek script in the currency notes of the country till approval of the real script, Meetei Mayek-18 .
According to a KEEKL statement, script experts in collusion with some selfish people intentionally modified Meetei Mayek-18 with the sole intention to extinct it and instead presented Meetei Mayek-27 to the Kanglei (Manipur) people forcibly.
Accordingly, Meetei Mayek-27 was approved by the government and this script is being used in academic curriculum nowadays though it is not the real script of the Kanglei people, the statement said and urged the government to review the approval of Meetei Mayek-27.While appealing to Kanglei people to think thoroughly over inclusion of indigenous script in the currency notes of India and take a firm stand to save the real script, Meetei Mayek-18, the KEEKL statement said that the state government is yet to give a response to the Lup's demand for reviewing the approval given to Meetei Mayek-27 .
