Imphal, June 26 2022:
The United Nations General Assembly declared June 26 as 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' towards its efforts of ensuring drug free society throughout the world and observance of the day was widely held in the state on Sunday.
Drugs worth more than Rs 200 crore seized during the government's 'War on Drug' mis sion were burnt and destroyed on Sunday in Bishnupur district thereby marking the observance more significant.
Intensifying the UN general assembly's resolution taken in 1980 against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, government of Manipur launched 'War on Drug' mission some years back with the main objective to uproot the problem of drug abuse and smuggling as Well as to prevent youth from drug addiction.
District police, paramilitary forces and civil society organisations came out to support the state government's mission and shouldered their responsibility while government encourages police officers and personnel who performed extraordinarily well under the mission by conferring them awards and cash rewards.
As part of daily's serial reportage on significant achievers of 'War on Drug' mission by picking them one by one, The People's Chronicle's had earlier highlighted achievements of police officer Dr S Ibomcha and now chronicles the achievements of incumbent SP Imphal East M Pradeep Singh.
Since December 10, 2021 to June 23, 2022, M Pradeep seized 45.390 kg contraband opium and arrested many people involved in drug smuggling and ferrying.
During the short period, the district police under the leadership Pradeep seized 4.729 kg of heroin, 2067 WY tablets, 151 N-10 tablets, 103 Tramazac capsules, 13,517 cough syrup bottles, 42,792 SP tablets and 240kg of Ganja from many people.
In the continuing drive against contraband drugs as part of 'War on Drug', the district police under Pradeep Singh arrested many drug smugglers and drug users and registered FIRs under ND & PS Act.
