Films should promote language : Joykisan

Thangmeiband AC MLA Khumukcham Joykishan has advocated promotion of rarely used 'archaic' Manipuri words in films and other mediums to educate the younger generations to help promote the language and make it richer.
He made the statement during the prize distribution ceremony of the 9th State level spelling competition and 5th translation/interpretation competition of Kangleilol held at MEIPA Banquet Hall at Konung Mamang today.
Speaking as the chief guest, the MLA continued that Manipuri, despite being a rich language, is at the risk of disappearance as many of its words have been altered and foreign words used.
Lauding the SUK for organising the programme to promote Manipuri language at such a crucial juncture, Joykisan appealed to the media and film professionals to play a key role in reviving the hardly used Manipuri words by incorporating them in their works.
He also said that he will extend maximum assistance in the endeavour.
Saying that widespread drug abuse by students is also a serious threat to the society, he also appealed to SUK to contribute their share in tackling drug menace.
CCSK president Jitendra Ningomba said that he was pleased to see many students taking part in the competitions and said that CCSK will assist SUK in organising similar competitions in future.
In the category A of the spelling competition, a Class VIII student of Tiny Tots' Unique School Thiyam Dayananda bagged the first prize while Florentina Mutum (Class VI student of Nirmalabas High School) and Tamnganba Okram (Class VII student of Tiny Tots' Unique School) were declared as second and third position holders respectively while Silvan Kangjam of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Langjing (Class IX) won the competition in category B.Thoudam Thasana of Little Flower School (Class X) and Tinyson Arambam of Catholic School took the second and third position respectively.
In the translation/interpretation competition, Haorongbam Ranjan, 4th semester student at Manipur University took the top prize while Thangjam Komolata (2nd semester at Manipur University) and Mungyamba Chungkham (Class X student at Manipur Star Institute) took the second and third places respect.
SUK president Dhanakumar Ningthouja also attended the programme.
