FC Imphal beat VSAI to lift Sangai Trophy

Imphal, June 26 2022: FC Imphal (Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi) beat VSAI (Thangmeiband) in a penalty shootout,to win the 4th Sangai Trophy Veterans' Football Championship 2022 on Sunday.

Lamkholen put FC Imphal in front in the 26th minute but UVSA drew level in the 30th minute through a penalty kick by N Itocha.

Thereon, neither side were able to break the deadlock and the game went into the penalty shootout where FC Imphal made all their attempts count, delivering on all of their four shots courtesy of M Meino, M Kiran, S Somananda and Lamkholen.

On the other hand, VSAI could only manage two goals in the shootout.

Champions FC Imphal pocketed Rs 1 lakh in prize money while VSAI received Rs 50,000 .

Individual prize winners of the tournament were FC Imphal's Rk Chandrajit (best goalkeeper), UVSA's K Premkumar (best defender), UVFA's Kh Sariaton (best midfielder), UVSA's W Ajit (top scorer), FC Imphal's M Bidyasagar Singh (best player - below 45 yrs), FC Imphal's L Kipgen (best player - 45 yrs & above), FC Imphal's L Ibomcha (best player - above 50 yrs), and AMBA's K Birendra Singh (oldest player) .
