Imphal, May 26 2023:
National People's Party (NPP) wrote a letter to union home minister Amit Shah cautioning that the situation in Manipur could take an uglier turn unless the violence is contained and peace restored at the earliest.
Informing this during a press conference held at the party's state office here on Friday, NPP national vice-president Y Joykumar said that NPP has been mi-nutely observing the situa-tion in the state and several initiatives are being taken up to deescalate tension and violent activities.
The party is also monitoring the steps taken up by the government and the present situation cannot be called peaceful at all though it has improved to some extent.

Joykumar also recalled how the state police con-trolled a potential clash in 2006 when he was DGP of Manipur Police after Kuki militant group KNA killed four Meetei civilians.
Like-wise, there is a need for proper use of the available manpower, mechanism and strategies to control the present situation.
The party had discussed the situation in its national executive meet chaired by national presi-dent Conrad Sangma.
The meeting resolved to meet the home minister but they submitted a written com-munique since they could not get an early appoint-ment, he said.
In the written communi-que, the party highlighted the loss of lives and prop-erties, displacement of in-nocent civilians, continuing violence, lack of resolute ac-tion from the government in controlling the situation resulting in trust deficit among the communities among others while urging for immediate measures to restore peace through con-fidence building, neutral administration, formation of relief and rehabilitation committee, peace com-mittees, provision of basic commodities among others.
The party also highlighted the violation of ground rules of Suspension of Operation (So0) agreement by Kuki militants while urging for immediate action to control the Kuki militants, said the former deputy chief min-ister.
Joykumar further in-formed that during the state visit of Amit Shah, the par-ty leaders led by national president Conrad Sangma will meet the union home minister.
