Senapati/Imphal, May 26 2023:
All Naga Students' As-sociation, Manipur (ANSAM); Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO); Naga Students' Union, Chandel (NSUC); and Naga Chiefs' Association, Chandel (NCAC) strongly condemned the Kwakeithel Bazar incident where four Naga girls were harassed and assault by an unruly mob on May 24.According to ANSAM, the inci-dent occurred in broad daylight when an auto-rickshaw carrying the four was stopped, the occupants attacked and their belongings de-stroyed despite pleas and identify-ing themselves as Tangkhul 'Nagas'.
ANSAM said as Naga civil organi-sations are constantly appealing for restoration of peace and normalcy in the state and such inhuman acts will only aggravate the situation.
ANSAM denounced 'irresponsible officer' Ak Jhalajit Singh, who is in-charge of 'Central Control Room' of 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall, Imphal, for circulating a press note categorising the incident as - -"it is absolutely false and there is no incident as such".
It further urged authorities con-cerned to look into the incident immediately on priority to bring justice and also direct the officers to carry out their duty diligently and more responsibly.
Meanwhile, the three Chandel -based Naga organisations said that they are deeply anguished by the violent inci-dent, while demanding the authorities concerned to take necessary actions against the perpetrators at the earliest.
Calling the press statement of Ak Jhalajit Singh as adding salt to injuries, the Chandel bodies conveyed that it is quite unbecoming of a senior govern-ment official to issue such a baseless statement without verification.
"He must tender a public apology for his irresponsible act at the earliest", they demanded, while adding that the government should remove Ak Jhalajit from the present assignment in order to avoid further goof-up and misunderstanding among the people in the "restive state" .
