In a telephonic conversation with his PRO S Jayadeva, Wangjing Tentha Assembly Constituency MLA Paonam Brojen has categorically stated that he will be the first to tender his resignation to protect the Meitei community.
The MLA, who is currently in Delhi, made the statement upon being informed of a horde of protestors storming his house to submit a memorandum after successfully staging a sit-in protest at Wangjing New Market under Thoubal district.
The sit-in protest was organised by Wangjing New Bazar Ima Lup with the participation of scores of vendors of Wangjing New Market.
The protestors called for withdrawal of SoO pact, setting up of a Population Commission, enforcement of NRC and expressed unwavering opposition to the demand for a separate administration.
After the protest, the vendors took out a rally and stormed the residence of MLA Paonam Brojen.
As the MLA was currently out of State, they handed over a memorandum to his spouse Paonam (Ongbi) Shyama.
The terms listed in the memorandum include: withdrawal of SoO pact with Kuki militants, stern opposition to creation of a separate administration, enforcement of NRC to save the indigenous population, to stand unitedly against the forces threatening to create a divide between the different communities and to declare the stance of the MLA with regards to the prevailing situation.
In a telephonic conversation with MLA Paonam Brojen, his PRO S Jayadeva laid down the terms of the memorandum to the MLA.
In his response, the MLA strongly asserted that protecting the integrity of Manipur is the sworn duty of all citizens.
"I will be the first MLA to resign from my office to protect the Meitei community", the MLA declared.
Assuring that aside from tendering his resignation, he will perform every duty expected of him to safeguard the community, he urged the people to have faith in the fifty MLAs.
Notably, Paonam Brojen added that as Central leaders will be visiting the State very soon, the MLAs will make their decision after hearing their ideas to restore normalcy and peace in Manipur.
