Imphal, May 26 2023:
All Manipur Demo-cratic Women's Association (AMDWA) has questioned the belated response from union home minister Amit Shah on the communal violence in the state and enquired if his schedule visit to the state is meant for counting dead bodies.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Fri-day, AMDWA secretary Ayekpam Ashabala raised suspicion of in-volvement of government agents behind the violence that broke out in the state from May 3 .
She questioned the reason behind the inability of the Government of India, which boasts of being the largest democracy in the world, to control the situation even after 23 days since the vio-lence began.
She also questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who hailed Manipur in his Mann Ki Baat.
She further enquired if the proposed visit of Amit Shah is to count dead bodies or to escalate the violence while citing the visit of the vice-president in Imphal on May 3, the day on which the violence broke out.
Even in the presence of the vice-president, the government did not take up immediate and adequate initia-tive to control the violence at the beginning.
Now, even after the CM admitted of lapses, the government is still not doing enough to rectify the mistakes, she said and decried the CM for sticking to his position rather than the safety and security of the public.
She then demanded the gov-ernment to provide basic needs in not only the relief camps but also to every family in the state, especially the poor, who have lost their income source due to the situation.
