Imphal, May 26 2023:
All Manipur Democratic Women's Association (AMDWA) has questioned the motive behind Union Home Minister Amit Shah's proposed visit to Manipur on May 29 after being silent on the prevailing situation of the State for more than 23 days.
Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club, A Ashabala, secretary of AMDWA, expressed her disappointment over the silence maintained by the Central Government on the ethnic conflict in Manipur that has led to the loss of many precious lives and thousands displaced.
"Despite the Prime Minister's announcement that India is a major super power in the world, the Government of India has failed to act decisively to control the civic disturbances in Manipur for so long", she added.
"On May 3, security was tight in Imphal for the Vice President of India's visit to Manipur University.
However, the State Government failed to take up necessary security measures in hill areas even with prior information about ATSUM's peace rally on the same day", she asserted.
Ashabala then urged the State Government to take concrete steps to prevent further escalation of violence and restore law & order in Manipur at the earliest.
