Sanglou Maram declares candidature for Saitu seat

A blessing cum declaration programme of candidature for Th Sanglou Maram, an independent candidate from 51-Saitu (ST) assembly constituency, was held at Brig Sirohi Playground, Tumuyon Khullen village on Monday.
In his address, Thangal Union president YK Raping urged the gathering not to get confused between choices of right representatives when a leader like Sanglou Maram comes as a candidate for the forthcoming 12th Manipur General Elections, 2022 in which, he said, is a rare opportunity for the region.
Time has come to make way for the next younger generation to let them have a peaceful life and there is no force on earth to stop them if there is social and political unity among the people, he further said, while urging all to support and vote for the independent candidate.
Different tribe leaders who attended the event also stressed the need for unity among the smaller tribes of the constituency.
Speaking on the occasion, Th Sanglou Maram confided that no one insisted him to become a candidate in the constituency but he decided to become one through his prayers to serve the public.
Consent was received from village elders after consultative meetings in the past.
He decided to represent the common people under the election manifesto of love, peace, transparency and equal development in the region, Sanglou added.
The candidate assured of serving the people through their support by voting hint.
An area committee and a central committee have been reportedly set up according to the wish of the people.
The Nagas under Saitu constituency are also known as minority group among dominant groups of the Kukis.
If all the minorities could come together as one, they could ensure a majority in the region, Sanglou said, adding that he has no intention of creating communalism among people living in the constituency.
But, he said that he would strengthen the bond of relationship between the Nagas and Kukis, Nagas and Meiteis, Nagas and Nepalis and all other communities living in the constituency.
His aim is to bring love and peace and equal development as given in his election manifesto.
Speaking to this correspondent, Th Sanglou Maram, who is from T/Khullen village, reiterated that he decided to become an intending candidate to bring love, peace, transparency and equal development in the region irrespective of caste, creed and communities.
There are different ethnic tribe groups inhabiting the Saitu constituency including Thadou-Kuki, Zou, Liangmei, Rongmei, Chiru, Thangal, Maram, Kom, Aimol, Mao, Tangkhul, Kharam, Nepali, Meitei, etc.
The blessing programme was led by Rev Chris Maraiba, mission secretary Maram Naga Baptist Association (MRNBA), with other church pastors present at the later part of the programme.
The AC has four Kuki candidates representing BJP, NPP, Congress and an independent candidate and one Naga candidate from JD(U).
Six candidates including two independents are likely to be in the fray.
