Imphal, February 07 2022:
Zou Women Human Rights Organisation (ZOWHRO) has spoken out against the certain groups of persons laying out threats to the chiefs and villagers of Zou inhabited villages within 60-Singhat (ST) Assembly Constituency demanding that they only vote for in favour of selected candidates.
In a statement, ZOWHRO shared that certain groups of people claiming to be members of a particular UG group under SOO have warned the villagers of dire consequences if they welcome or entertain the campaign of a particular candidate whom they were against.
The statement asserted that due to this act of blatant discrimination, free and fair poll in does not seem possible in the ensuing Manipur State Legislative Assembly election in respect to 60-Singhat (ST) AC .
As such ZOWHRO has appealed to the SOO group and all their accomplices to restrain themselves from interfering in the electoral process.
Further, the organisation also appealed to the concerned Government to take appropriate precautions to ensure that each and every voter within 60-Singhat (ST) AC can exercise their right to vote without fear or prejudice.
The organisation also called upon the voters of the AC to recognise their fundamental rights and resist any form of threats and coercive devices or succumb to any pressure which may threaten their rights and freedom.
