Churachandpur, February 07 2022:
Office inauguration cum flag hoisting ceremony of INC candidate from Saikot AC TN Haokip was held on Monday at his Gibeon Cottage, Bijang residence in Churachandpur.
DCC Churachandpur president Lalnghet Hmar opened the office in the presence of functionaries of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
Later, a blessing ceremony for TN Haokip was performed by Rev Sekhohao Haokip.
During his speech, TN Haokip stressed the need for all communities to live in harmony and stay away from the BJP's Hindutva policies and attempt to controlling private life of the people.
He also recalled how BJP formed the government without getting clear mandate of the people in the last assembly election by using power of the Governor to carry out their sinister design ana appealed to people of Manipur to be aware and exercise their franchise cautiously this time or face consequences.
Regarding the ADC election, TN Haokip said that a decision was taken by Hill Areas Committee (HAC) not to conduct election and as a result there was no election for 20 years.
However, when a complaint was made to Central government during the time O Ibobi Singh led government, the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi immediately summoned state leaders.
Then CM O Ibobi, Gaikhangam, who represented the Nagas and T Phungzathang, who represented the Kukis, went to Delhi and the election was held later but the present government led by BJP could not conduct ADC election despite lapse of tenure, he added.
Speaking at the event, MPCC vice president Kh Devbrata spelled out some of the agendas of the Congress party in the state which include free transportation for working women and school students, enhancement of GDP which remains stagnated due to BJP's misrule.
He said that many people in the North East including Manipur happily joined Congress due to its secular stance and democratic principle.
He also alleged BJP of pursuing religious fanaticism and trying to convert entire people of the North East as Hindu.
If Manipur remains under the BJP rule for another five more years, economy and living conditions of the people will fall to its lowest ebb, he added.
In another development, INC candidate from 58-Churachandpur AC Mangchinkhup Paite convened a press conference at his residence and lamented rise in prices of all commodities.
He pointed out that one litre of Petrol cost Rs 60 during the rule of Congress but it is Rs 100 under the BJP.
LPG which cost Rs 400 per refilled cylinder during Congress government has been hiked to Rs 1100 and above.
This is a pointer that people made wrong choice of leader and its results are manifested in persecution of religious minorities.
Burning of Churches by VHP goons in the mainland India and reducing to ashes their Bibles is a case in point and this has clearly shown that BJP is not good for the future and it has totally abrogated basic principles of Constitution like secularism, he added.
