Imphal, February 07 2022:
Maintaining that several attempts were made to bring down the BJP-led government, chief minister N Biren said that it is obvious for the party to award ticket to those, who played major role in saving the government and not to those who want to topple the government.
Speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate for Sagolband assembly constituency MLA RK Imo held at the latter's Sagolband Bijoy Govinda residence on Monday, Biren acknowledged that some intending candidates, who could not get BJP ticket, resorted to burning party flag.
However, some among the disgruntled ticket seekers need to introspect if they did anything to save the government from falling apart, he said and added that those people were privy to the attempt made for derailing the government.
Attempts were made every day to remove him from government in the last five years and he knew it all.
He never forgets the contribution of MLAs, who even gave up their positions, to save the government.
Okram Henry of Wangkhei AC left his family and supported his government and the party is returning the favour by allotting him and others the party's ticket, he iterated.
Describing as unfortunate and unwarranted that some people passed comment on his ailing daughter over the ticket allotment issue, Biren clarified as that he did not bring in RK Imo into BJP fold as he feared that the public might see it as a family politics.
However, central leaders of the party insisted that RK Imo join the party in recognition of his role in saving the government and as such he (Imo) joined the party in the national capital, explained the CM.
Biren further said that it is rather funny for NPP president Conrad Sangma to speak about Manipur.
He is making senseless statement about the state, its people and UG organisations active in the state.
He finds it surprising that many candidates are contesting the election under such a leader.
Political campaigns are being carried out in different parts of the state and candidates in some assembly constituencies such as Keishamthong and Yaiskul ACs are hoping to buy votes by using their money power.
It is time to teach such candidates the right lesson by the public, he said and asserted that the existing 29 MLAs of BJP will retain their seats and the party is putting its best efforts to add 11 more seats to reach 40.In his address, Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the party ticket is issued by the central leaders after proper survey.
It is unfortunate for some intending candidates to indulge in anti-party activities like burning the flags after not getting the ticket, he lamented.
Hailing CM Biren and MLA RK Imo, he urged the public to support RK Imo and BJP to bring back the second term of Biren government and take development to the next level.
MLA RK Imo also hailed the Modi government for its schemes and projects as well as the Biren government for its pro-people activities.
Maintaining that five years is too short for achieving target for development, he urged the public to support the party in bringing a lone BJP government.
Everybody knows that his family is a family of Congress but he was denied Congress ticket when he contested his first election.
Congress chose Kh Loken at that time.
However, he respected the party's decision and did nothing against the party.
However, Kh Loken is now burning party flags for not getting BJP ticket, which is very unfortunate, he said.
The MLA also slammed Loken for dragging in his wife in the election campaign while terming it as the lowest level of politics.
The people of Sagolband AC cannot flourish under such type of leader, he added.
