Imphal, February 07 2022:
Congress MLA K Ranjit said that BJP brought a repressive regime in the state and ruled the state by suppressing freedom of expression of the people.
Attending the flag hoisting ceremony of Patsoi MLA Ak Mirabai held at her Taobungkhok residence on Monday, MLA Ranjit said that the BJP government at the Centre is selling off public properties developed by past governments.
They have privatised several public properties like nationalised banks, PSUs, railway and airport including Imphal Airport.
In the state too, the BJP-led government is suppressing freedom of expression of the people.
Campaigns like Go to Hills and Go to Village are just drama.
Congress created seven new districts for better administration and development in the hills and some organisations carried out bandh and blockade along the highway against the policy.
Congress government stood firmly against the pressure in the larger interest of the public.
On the other hand, the Go to Hills mission is nothing but an advertisement and helicopter ride.
If the BJP government was committed to bring development, it could have improved infrastructure and government machineries in the hill districts.
Having a helicopter ride to the hill cannot be called development, he said.
At the same time, Go to Village is nothing but a trade to sell LPG connections.
The BJP government has hiked the LPG price from Rs 450 during Congress rule to Rs 1000 and it would not be wrong to say that the government is carrying out trade in the name of providing free LPG connections, he added.
Regarding the hill-valley relationship remarks made by BJP frequently, the MLA said that the hill-valley relationship was cordial during the Congress rule which is why Congress won nine seats out of 20 in the hills in the last state assembly election amid the threat faced by Congress workers, some of whom have even lost their lives.
The present law and order situation in the state is a gift of Ibobi government but not of Biren government.
There were many organisations which carried out extortion activities and the then Congress government put its efforts to control the situation in order to protect the lives and properties of the general public.
As a result, the state is seeing improvement in law and order situation, he said.
BJP is claiming construction of some foot bridges and some market sheds in hill districts as its achievement.
However, the government has not been able to complete the capitol project, Tombisana Ima Keithel, special economic zone for IT at Mantripukhri, HIT among other projects initiated by Congress.
The only achievement of BJP is its attempt to bring RSS in Manipur University, which led to disruption of academic activities for several months and police using violence against peaceful students who were studying in their hostel rooms.
The government turned on the public in order to protect former MU VC professor Pandey.
A DC was given punishment transfer for making public the Indo-Myanmar border pillar 81 issue, he said.
CPI Manipur state secretary L Sotinkumar, who was also present during the programme, said that the Biren government has become a corrupt government with 62 per cent of government activities involving corruption.
It ignores education sector, public healthcare and other key issues of the state.
He also criticised the BJP government at the Centre for privatisation of public assets.
MLA Ak Mirabai said that she had published development works she had taken up in Patsoi assembly constituency in two phases and appealed to the public to let her know if she missed out anything.
She also assured of paying more focus on women's empowerment, improving food technology, health and employment issues in the next five years.
Patsoi Block Congress Committee president L Kumar, CPI national executive member Dr M Nara, CPI-M state secretary Kh Santa, Forward Bloc secretary Kh Janeshwar, MPCC general secretary L Tilotama and other party leaders were also present during the event.
