Drive conducted ahead of Diwali, Chakkouba

Teams of Food Safety Administration of the Health Department additional food safety commissioner Dr K Rajo carried out drive in connection with Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba festivals at different shops in Ihangal Bazar on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the drive, Dr K Rajo informed that the teams checked whether manufacturing and expiry dates are well inscribed on the packaged food items and the contents damages or not.
While disclosing that some shops selling imported items that did not have the date of manufacture expiry, he asserted that such shops will be classified and legal actions initiated.
Informing that food items which contain tobacco products that can cause cancer, items without manufacturing and expiry date and without FSSAI licence found selling in Thangal markets have been confiscated during the drive, Dr K Rajo urged the people to check the food items before buying them as consuming such items will harm the body.
Food safety administration Imphal West designated officer Tekcham Brojendro Khaba Meitei said that many food items imported from outside the state and restricted by the government were also found selling in the market.
Food safety administration will continue to conduct the drive as consumption of such items is harmful to health, he said, while urging the people to contact the administration if they have any suspicion in the food items.
