Mao women commended at anniversary event

Achieving a 50-year milestone, Mao Naga Women Welfare Association (MNWWA), Imphal on Thursday celebrated its Golden Jubilee at the hall of Tribal Research Institute here.
Union Minister of State Dr RK Ranjan attended the event as chief guest while PHE Minister Losii Dikho was guest of honour.
Welcome address was delivered by Dr Mary Chithung, secretary BoSEM, and MNWWA president D Kaini Thohrii delivered the keynote address while female music sensation Adane Ozhou, Mao mothers, B Kaini group and Manihrii group delighted the crowd with their traditional musical talents.
The golden Jubilee plaque and the souvenir were released by the chief guest.
The event was attended by leaders of Mao Council, Naga Women, Mao students, Senapati District Women's Association, Poumai Women, Mao unions from different areas, organisations, officers and youth organisations among others.
Minister Losii Dikho appreciated services rendered by MNWWA Imphal for the welfare of Mao community.
He also acknowledged the relations and association of MP Dr RK Ranjan Singh with the Mao community since his days in Manipur University till today.
Losii Dikho, who is set to re-contest from Mao A/C, emphasised the need to promote and teach our children discipline and cultural practices passed down through generations.
He also said that Mao women should be an ambassador of peace and harmony in the society, while wishing them to be an example of hard work, gratefulness, discipline and loving to others.
MoS Dr RK Ranjan Singh revisited his old days of maintaining good relationships with Mao community with different personalities and giving efforts for promoting Mao based educational institutions.
He appreciated the wonderful culture and social behaviours of the Mao people in Manipur.
He specifically remembered the Mao culture of climbing Mount Khungho by young and old alike during the festive days with ancestral voice of unique rhythm and cultural preservation.
The former educationist-turned-politician also praised the organic vegetables and lifestyle of Mao people.
He asked the Mao women to identify exportable items from Mao to be marketed to foreign countries through companies.
MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze, who could not attend the event in person, sent a letter, in which he praised Mao women for their efforts in helping the community economically and socially.
Mahrilii Kayina arid Ada-ha Maheo were the hosts of the event while MBC general secretary Rev K Losii delivered an invocation prayer.
B Kaisa Puni proposed a vote of thanks and a benediction was done by Retreat House director Rev Fr Linus Neli.
