Govt urged to release dues to catering volunteers

Kakching, November 04 2021: Volunteers, who had provided catering services in four Community Home Isolation Centres (CHICs) and one Covid Care Centre (CCC) of Kakching district, have urged the government to release the pending Rs 24 lakh for catering to these centres.

Addressing a press meet on Wednesday, the volunteers stated that when the second wave of Covid-19 hit the state, they volunteered to serve in CHICs opened at ITI Kakching, SC/ST Girls' Hostel Kakching Wairi; Kha Manipur College Kakching and Kakching Makha High School from May 2 arid worked at these centres for four months and 10 days without going home.

When the government announced that it will provide food at these centres, they took up the responsibility of providing catering services to the CHICs of Kakching area and Kakching Higher Secondary School CCC.

But till now, when all the centres have been closed the government is yet to pay Rs 24 lakh incurred in running the catering services.

They have also not been paid the honorarium of Rs 1000 per day assured to the Covid Task Force/volunteers, the volunteers revealed.

The volunteers lamented that they do not belong to any rich families.

To provide the services they had borrowed money and items required, but now they and their family members are being hounded to pay up the money which has made their life miserable.

Hence, they appealed to the government to release the due funds at the earliest.
