Imphal, April 21 2022:
Many organisations continue to condemn the statement made by union home minister Amit Shah for making Hindi language as a compulsory subject till Class X in the North Eastern states.
A release jointly issued by presidents of AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIM informed that the student bodies will organise a people's convention at GM hall on April 26 from 11 am to facilitate a thorough discussion on the pros and cons of the centre's Hindi policy.
The release highlighted the need to critically examine the effects which will be caused by the statement of Amit Shah.
It expressed serious concern that imposition of Hindi language on indigenous people will eventually dilute their unique language, script and tradition.
In separate releases, League of Indigenous Peoples' Up-liftment and Leihou Khunai Kanba Luptin have also strongly denounced the remarks of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and cautioned of negative consequences if Hindi is imposed in the state.
The move of Amit Shah is similar to making people to forget their mother tongue and erase the identity of the indigenes, the organisations opined.
Education should be scientific and secular.
Forceful imposition of other languages is an act of human rights violation, the releases condemned, while demanding the state government to clarify on the matter so as to allay the apprehension of the people.
Different communities consider their mother tongues as their heart and soul like people in mainland consider Hindi as their soul, they pointed out, while assuring that they are fully prepared to support any movement launched against forceful imposition of Hindi language in the state.
