Noney, April 21 2022:
A joint action committee (JAC) formed by genuine land owners in Nungba headquarters on Thursday issued a five-day ultimatum to DC Noney and state government over alleged fraudulent release of about Rs 31 crore as compensation money for widening the NH-37 in Nungba area.
The JAC expressed deep dissatisfaction with the DC for releasing the compensation money fraudulently to an unspecifiable committee.
In this connection, a meeting attended by one member from each household was held at Nungba town playground and discussed necessary action to be taken up against the culprits and officials involved in the fraud.
The villagers sought the chief minister's intervention over the wrongful release of compensation money instead of transferring to the genuine beneficiaries.
It is said that some villagers were made to sign on blank APR form and government officials are also suspected to be involved.
The meeting concluded with formation of a JAC which served a five-day ultimatum demanding recovery of the compensation money transferred from the DC Noney's account to the unknown committee's account.
The fraudulent money transaction took place a few weeks ago and failure to act against it would invite public agitation, warned JAC convener Ashing Kamei.
