Imphal, April 21 2022:
Mari Suba Khwairamband Ema Keithel Lup has raised strong objection against the government's reported move to shift women vendors of 4th Khwairamband Ema Keithel to the erstwhile Tombisana High School, where a market complex is under construction.
Speaking to media persons on Thursday, Lup vice president Luwangleima pointed out that though the women vendors are paying the same tax like any other vendors in Khwairamband market authorities concerned have been neglecting the fourth market.
While asserting that they are not street-vendors, she informed that around 1600 women vendors are selling their wares in the market by holding vendor cards since 2001 .
It is unfortunate that the government authorities left them out and consulted other women vendors regarding shifting of women vendors and vending space, she contended, while demanding the government to recognise the fourth Khwairamband Ema Keithel.
Moreover, the street vendors should be issued trading permission/cards and shifted to the Tombisana High School market place.
Regarding licence holder vendors of 4th Khwairamband Keithel who are selling their products outside the market, Luwangleima cautioned that they will apprise IMC for cancelling the license if the vendors do not operate at their respective vending spaces inside the market within May 10.All the decisions taken by the women vendors of the market will be final, she asserted.
