7 years RI for rape convict

Special Judge Fast track Special Court (POCSO) has sentenced Khwairakpam Maheshwor alias Sanahal (32) to 7 years rigorous imprisonment today on charge of committing sexual assault on a minor
on March 25, 2016 .
The convict Khwairakpam Maheshwor s/o Khwairakpam Manihar of Nambol Kha Jiri, a private school teacher by profession, who was convicted by the same Court on April 19 was produced before the Court for sentence hearing today.
During the sentence hearing Special PP submitted that Khwairakpam Maheshwor was convicted by the same Court under section 4 of POCSO Act for committing penetrative sexual assault on one of his students who was a minor at the time of the incident and demanded maximum degree of punishment.
On the other hand defense counsel submitted that the convict is the sole bread earner and has no previous criminal record before and prayed for minimum sentence.
The Court after hearing both the counsels ordered the convict Khwairakpam Maheshwor to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 7 years, including the six months time he had spent in jail during the trial, and imposed a fine Rs 10,000 under section 4 of POCSO Act.
The Court further directed that on failure to pay the fine of Rs 10,000, the convict has to undergo another three months of simple imprisonment.
Mentioned may be made that the covict had kidnapped the minor girl on March 25, 2016 and sexually assaulted her before she was rescued by a team of Bishnupur police a few days later.
