Maintaining that Kom tribe is an indigenous community of Manipur and that Kharam Thadoi village belongs to the Kom and not Naga Kom as reported in some local dailies, Kharam Thadoi village secretary T Achung Kom has appealed to all concerned to stop fuelling tension among different communities through false propaganda.
Talking to media persons at Kharam Thadoi Baptist Church on Wednesday, Achung Kom informed that Kom is among the many indigenous communities settling in the state since time immemorial.
Though the population of Kom tribe is very small, yet it is recognised by the Constitution of India, he pointed out and expressed serious resentment that certain groups and individuals are trying to fan discord among different communities by trying to include Kom under a different community.
He further informed that the Kom community has been settling at Kharam Thadoi village since early days with individuals from Kom community as the village chief and safeguarding the village for many years.
Even to this day, the village is being safeguarded under the chieftainship of T Lunkhokam Kom.
Though there are different communi ties settling in Kharam Thadoi village, the village belongs to the Kom community alone, he affirmed.
The secretary further appealed all to remain alert from false propaganda which could lead to strain the cordial relationship among the villagers and other communities.
