Imphal, April 12 2023:
Communist Party of India (CPI) is all set to launch a nationwide campaign against the BJP government raising several demands and issues.
Programme outline of the month-long protest was announced on Wednesday.
Addressing a press meet in this regard at Irawat Bhawan here on Wednesday, CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Thoiren said that the nationwide campaign is to be launched under the slogan 'Defeat BJP - Save the Nation and People' from April 14 to May 15 .
However, for the state, the campaign will begin from April 15 keeping in view of Cheiraoba festival on April 14, he said.
Thoiren recounted that since its inception in 1925, Communist Party of India has remained at the forefront of people's struggles for a better life of the marginalised section of the society.
While claiming that CPI is second to none when it comes to making sacrifices for the people and the country, the secretary maintained that in its glorious history, the party has given voice to the exploited, marginalised and discriminated sections of the society and significantly shaped national agenda positively.
The party's struggles brought major victories for all sections of the society.
CPI's contribution is indelible whether it is of hard-earned labour rights or entitlements for farmers.
Today, the nation is facing a new and unprecedented political situation where there is a question mark on the very survival of democracy in the country.
A regime controlled by the divisive agenda of RSS is in power at the Centre and in several states.
This ideology is destroying everything that the country's freedom movement stood for.
Core values of the country's republic like secularism and socialism are being trampled on since the RSS-sponsored Hindutva narrative has gripped the country.
Caste atrocities are on the rise and discrimination with historically marginalised sections has become institutional.
Crony capitalism is eating into the precious resources of the country ably abetted by the government, Thoiren elaborated.
In such a scenario, the political campaign has become important and critical for the cause of the people and to protect democratic rights, he said, adding that the campaign will highlight the failure of the government in providing the very basic amenities for citizens.
Joining the media briefing, CPI State Political Affairs Committee convenor N Singhajit said that April 14 is birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar - the architect of the Constitution of India, who fought for social justice and for eradication of caste system throughout his life.
Further stating that May 1 is the day of celebration by the working people all over the world, he said the party will propagate and mobilise the people to fight for social justice and socialism.
He also slammed the BJP government for declining the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani Group while citing the reason as nexus between Adani and Central government leaders.
Meanwhile, former secretary of CPI Manipur State Council L Sotinkumar said that the demands and issues to be raised during the month-long campaign include 'Defeat BJP - Save the Nation and People'; JPC probe into Adani Group; Root out corruption & stop privatisation; protest fund cut for MGNREGS; save territorial boundary of Manipur; implementation of NRC in Manipur; resolve drug issues by involving local bodies; protect agricultural land; and timely supply of agricultural inputs at affordable rates.
