Iboyaima Award 2023 presented to Chana Lukhoi

Manipur State Shumang Leela Council has presented the Thokchom Iboyaima Award 2023 to renowned narrative art performer and writer Oinamcha Tunan, popularly known as Chana Lukhoi, on the occasion of the 23rd Shumang Leela Numit held at Th Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound, here, on Wednesday.
Renowned theatre personality Dr Ratan Thiyam, who attended the event as chief guest, presented the award, which carries Rs 50,000 in cash, citation and a shawl, to the 73 years old artiste cum writer.
Chana Lukhoi is a resident of Chana Mayai Leikai, Imphal East.
He is born to Oinam Mani and Irungbam Ningol Amuleima on April 10, 1950 .
He married Khaidem Lembi (Nungthilchaibi) and they have two sons and two daughters.
Chana Lukhoi is also an approved artiste of DDK and AIR Imphal.
He had been honoured with several awards by different organisations including 18 best scripts and nine second best scripts in Shumang Leela for his contribution in the field of art and literature.
He is a member of Kangla Religious Committee.
Kangla Fort Board and academic council of Manipur University of Culture as well as a visiting guru of MUC dance department.
Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, Dr Ratan Thiyam observed that Shumang Leela is one of the most popular traditional art forms in the country and the strong foundation laid by the forefathers is the reason behind this popularity.
Though there is a permanent Shanglen for Shumang Leela but the folk traditional art requires modernisation from time to time and so does the Shanglen.
There is the need to discuss redesigning of the Shanglen considering the modern needs so that it can become a world class facility for Shumang Leela, which could further promote the art form to a higher level, he said.
In this regard, one should analyse the type of space and facilities aspired by the audience.
Giving comfort in viewing any art form has become one of the priorities in contemporary society, he said while drawing attention of all stakeholders towards creating world class infrastructure for Shumang Leela, which is one of a kind art form in the entire world.
Manipur State Shumang Leela Council president M Purnimashi presided over the function while lifetime president Ph Gunachandra attended as guest of honour.
Several veteran artistes, writers, supporters and contributors of Shumang Leela were also honoured on the occasion by presenting gifts.
Lamjingba Artistes' Association's play 'Panthou Sangai', which had won best production in the recent Shumang Leela competition, was presented as part of the function.
Later, in the evening, Sangai Artistes' Association and Peacemaker Artistes' Association presented second and third best production plays respectively at Heirangoithong Volleyball ground and Keishampat Thiyam Leikai.
