NRC, Naga/tribal land issues top conclave

A two-day Naga Conclave, 2023 organised by United Naga Council (UNC) concluded on Wednesday at Maram Union Secretariat, Old Monday Market, here.
Delivering the keynote address, UNC president Ng Lorho said that the conclave was organised as per a resolution passed during the Naga People's Convention held in the later part of March, 2023 .
Revisiting the 3rd Naga People's Convention, 2010 declaretion/altemative arrangement, power-point presentation on "NPC Declaration, 2010 & Alternative Arrangement" was given by UNC former president L Adani while a presentation on district creation/mushrooming of organisations was given Naga Hoho vice president Samson Remei in the first session of the conclave.
The 2nd session began under the theme "Understanding our neighbours", during which UNC's another former president G Gaingam spoke on indigenous issues and advisor S Kho John, also a former president, focussed on "NRC/Population Commission".
The second day continued with a paper presentation on "Tribals and issue of Land & Forest Rights in Manipur" by K Timothy Zimik, IRS, chief commissioner of Income Tax (retired) Ministry of Finance (Revenue); while Manipur High Court advocate Daniel Ramsan delivered a PowerPoint presentation on "Article 371-C/ADC/Village Authorities in Hill Areas Act, 1956 & ST Demand".
On the other hand, a topic on "Procrastination of delimitation in Manipur and its impact" was presented by Home Raikhan, IRS (retired) and Ng Lorho on "Reflection on Election".
Discussion followed in the later part of the programme.
Briefing the media, the UNC president informed that the Conclave, 2023 had brain storming sessions on varied issues apart from seven resource persons speaking on different topics.
It was a pleasant and healthy conclave with series of interactions from 20 different Naga tribe leaders, intellectuals, parliamentarians, ex-parliamentarians and other leaders from Nagas of Manipur, he said.
All the topics covered during the conclave will be analysed for a final decision which will be made within a short span of time after sitting together with all the leaders concerned with the executives of the UNC, Lorho added.
