'Khulang Eshei', Taal Cholom showcased

With the main objective of preserving and promoting the dying indigenous art form, Forward Artistes' Centre in Camp (FACE) and Urungpur Museum & Heritage Research Centre organised a one-day 'Khulang Eshei' festival at the rehearsal hall of FACE, Tera Amudon Leirak here on Sunday.
Former minister Dr M Nara, who was chief guest of the festival organised under the aegis of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, said that culture is similar to lifestyles of a society and preserving traditions and culture of a society is very important.
There are many art forms in Manipur but several have become extinct while others are on the verge of extinction, he said and commended FACE for organising the festival to preserve and promote 'Khulang Eshei'.
JN Manipur Dance Academy director Pukhrambam Bilash, who also attended opening function of the festival, said that Manipur has different art forms but many of them have vanished.
Khulang Eshei is an old art form of Manipur and it is the visual expression of poems or essays with automatic lyric and rhythm.
However, its origin is yet to be ascertained and today's generation rarely see it, he said and thanked FACE for organising the festival.
Meanwhile, Guru Natek Meitei Pung Research Institute presented its new production, Mel Joy (Taal Cholom Nat Sankritan) at Radha Krishna Mandop, Konjin Makha Leikai on Saturday.
The production has been sponsored by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
As part of the programme, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of deceased Guru Natek Singh.
