Imphal, November 30 2022:
Ad-hoc Committee Sawombung to Sagolmang via Keibi Road has cautioned of blocking the road stretch from Sawombung to Sagolmang via Keibi from December 5 if government fails to initiate repair works within December 4 .
Speaking to news persons at the Keibi office of Young Learner Library and Leading Organisation on Wednesday, Committee co-conveher Laishram Ropen recalled the numerous assurances given by the government representatives including even in the assembly session for repairing the road.
Whenever the people warn of launching protest to denounce failure to translate the assurances into action, work agencies make it a point to lay some gravels and mend few pot-holes instead of repairing the road, he contended.
While stating the condition of the road is deteriorating and the people have given up the hope that the government authorities would honour genuine demand of the public, Ropen also pointed out that passenger carriers have ceased service due to the poor condition of the road.
School bus and van service operators have also taken the decision to halt service after some time.
In view of the evolving Situation, local clubs, village development committee and meira paibi groups formed the ad-hoc committee and further resolved to block the road from 6am of December 5 if there is no sign of repair work within December 4.No vehicles will be exempted during period of blockade, he declared.
The co-convener also affirmed the Committee will not approach the government on the matter for talks held earlier had been fruitless and asserted that the road blockade protest will not be lifted until the repair works begin.
