Imphal, November 30 2022:
MPCC president and MLA K Meghachandra has said that developmental lacunae in all sectors made the people of Jiribam district suffer a lot but the government remains silent and seems to be uninterested in bringing development in the district bordering Assam state.
K Meghachandra first inspected District Industries Centre (DIC) at Babupara on Wednesday and later covered sports complex at Bidyanagar, residential model school at Harinagar, 50-bedded hospital at Ningshingkhul and ITI centre at Kadamtala.
After the inspection, the state's Congress chief told media persons at ITI complex that he was surprised on witnessing the present condition of DIC Jiribam as no one including caretaker (Chowkidar) of the centre was present at the time of his visit.
The DIC office too was found locked while its weaving training centres were found converted into jun gle, he said and strongly condemned the manner in which the important government institution was left unattended.
Regarding ITI Jiribam, the MPCC president said that the building of ITI centre was constructed at a cost of Rs 4.50 crore during the time of Congress government.
The ITI centre was opened with the main objective of providing skill development training to youth but it is yet to be made functional till date, he said, adding that the BJP government talks of providing jobs to unemployed youth but never translates assurances given into action.
He also said that residential model school at Harinagar remains defunct while dust fills all the roads in Jiribam district.
While stating that people residing in border areas particularly those of Jiribam district have no expectation from the government, Meghachandra advised that the government deliver the promises made to the people.
During the inspection, the MPCC president was accompanied by former INC candidate for Jiribam AC Badurul Rahman and functionaries of Jiribam Block Congress Committee.
